Charles J Deritis home was in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. He went on to graduate of Allendale School, Hill Preparatory School at Pottstown, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania and Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Philadelphia county, Pennsylvania. He entered the US Air Corps in October, 1942.He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Meal with one Silver and four bronze oak leaf cluster. The award was made for an attack at low altitude which he led when a heavy overcast was encountered. On the return flight he showed leadership in avoiding danger areas, and thus enabled the group to return to base with a minimum of damage. On November 18, 1944 he was on the crew of the B-26 Marauder #43-34456 "Mil Bi Fe" during a mission to Gey, Germany. Then entire crew of nine men were killed. We identified 9 casualties in our archive related to the #43-34456 incident on November 18, 1944.
