T/4 Leo W Goers joined the service and took a ten-day leave to marry his fiancee, Loretta Legendre. At the end of his leave he was sent to Holland.

He was killed in a tank explosion soon after. He was one of the first casualties from Dakota County. After his death, his wife Loretta entered a convent and later spent two years in Asia doing charitable work during the Vietnam war.
