Additional Details
Lt Toups was the pilot of P-38J Lockheed Lightning #43-28700 during a dive-bombing mission to Bourscheid, Luxembourg.
They had just finished dropping their bombs over the target when a convoy of enemy vehicles was sighted and they decided to strafe them. Encountering no flak a second pass was made. Enemy light flak began to open up. His right engine began to smoke and then cut out, his aircraft rolled over and began spinning at approximately 1200 feet and crashed into the ground. |
