Additional Details
James McCready Huston Jr was born in South Bend, St Joseph County, Indiana. He was the son of James McCready Huston and Daryl Gillespie Greene. He was later living in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
He served as a Navy pilot aboard the USS Natoma Bay and was killed during the Battle of Iwo Jima. While flying over the island, his Grumman FM-2 Wildcat was hit with antiaircraft fire. It knocked his propeller off and destroyed the engine. He landed in the ocean and never came out. He is considered missing in action.
There is an interesting story connected to a a man named James Leininger who claims to be James Huston Jr reincarnated. As a child, Leininger would have nightmares and scream "Airplane crash! Plane on fire! Little man can't get out!" When his parents would ask who can't get out, young Leininger would say, "Me". He knew detailed facts about WW2 planes, despite only being a toddler. Furthermore, Huston's shipmates, now senior citizens, say Leininger looks like Huston. |
