Additional Details
Charles Howard Mortimer was the son of James Charles Mortimer and Gertrude M Johnson. He was originally from Westchester County, New York. He obtained his medical degree and completed his internship in New York. Later he was living in Detroit with his wife Madge. He entered into service as Flight Surgeon with the 308th Bomber Group.
On January 25, 1944 he was a passenger on the B-24J Liberator #42-73242 "Haley's Comet" when they took off from Kunming Airfield in China for a ferry flight to Chabua Airfield in India. They failed to show up at their destination, and they were declared missing. All of those onboard were officially declared dead on January 26, 1946.
In January, 2011 the wreck site was located and visited, however no remains have been reported as being recovered.
