Additional Details
Edward Felix Lukoski was born and grew up in Brooklyn. He enlisted in the US Navy on January 27, 1942 and spent his boot camp at the Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island. At the end of 1943 Edward was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Franklin.
Their ship, nicknamed "Big Ben," was torpedoed during the task force invasion of Japan. While this invasion was in progress a group of Japanese Kamakaze aircraft dove head on into the Franklin. The results were disastrous with the loss of over 800 men on board. |
