Captain Leet was a member of the Marine Composite Squadron 1, Marine Air Group 15, 1st Marine Air Wing.
On April 13, 1972, Captain David L Leet was the pilot and Captain John M Christensen the electronic warfare officer on the Grumman Intruder Electronic Surveillance Aircraft (EA-6A) #BU-156979 when they departed Da Nang Airbase in on a night combat mission deep in North Vietnam.
Their target area included the extremely well defended area of Hanoi Haiphong Harbor. They completed their mission and were returning to base when their aircraft apparently crashed. During an extensive aerial search, no trace of the aircraft or the two men were found. They are considered Missing in Action.
