Additional Details
On May 18, 1969, a U.S. Army helicopter OH-6A (tail number 67-16557) from 9th Artillery, 4th Infantry Division was attempting to silence a 122 mm rocket attack on Camp Enari when WO1 James P. Casey scrambled with an aerial observer, 1LT Steven R. Huffstutler, and crew chief SP4 James M. Davenport to direct artillery fire to suppress the attack. It was the second night attack in a row that the base came under a rocket attack. WO1 Casey was to return to Camp Enari, however, night fell and the weather turned bad, so he tried to divert to Camp Holloway but crashed in route. WO1 Casey and the A/O were killed immediately and the crew chief died one week later. |
