John Henry Zimmerlee was born and raised in Georgia. He was the son of John Henry Zimmerlee and Rachel Johanna Toso. He had served his country during World War II before being deployed to Korea.
On March 22, 1952 he was on the crew as bombardier of the Douglas B-26B Invader bomber #44-34417 with the 730th Bomber Squadron, 452nd Bomber Wing. While on an armed reconnaissance near Kangdong, contact was lost with their aircraft. They were declared missing in action and officially presumed dead on February 28, 1954.
