Clemenceau McAdoo “Clem†Givings was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen. He graduated from flight training on May 28, 1943, at Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama. He deployed to Italy with the 100th Fighter Squadron in December. His squadron flew its first combat mission on February 5, 1944.
Returning from a mission on March 18, 1944 the engine in his P-39 Airacobra failed. He bailed out from the aircraft, but became tangled in his parachute and drowned in Naples Harbour. Givings's body was recovered the next day by an Italian fisherman. |
