Pvt Francis Clifford enlisted in the US Army at Chicago, Illinois on September 21, 1942.
His platoon had started to leave the town of Hockelbach in Belgium when they were fired upon by enemy tanks and small arms. Four men were killed, five wounded and two missing in action.
