Additional Details
Staff Sergeant Schiele was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division. On July 12, 1967, he was on a search and destroy mission along the Cambodian border. Then SP4 Schiele's unit was overwhelmed by PAV forces during combat operations (search and destroy). Sgt Schiele was known to have been shot several times, in his chest and legs, prior to being captured. There were 7 MIAs as a result of this incident of which 5 returned at the end of the war. SSgt Schiele and SSgt James Van Bendegom remain Missing in Action. |
